The Holiday Part II

Today's post is a continuation of Saturday's- on the Movie: "The Holiday."

I heard that this house was actually built for the movie. I find that a little disappointing. I like thinking that it is genuinely old and charming- rather than manufactured to be old and charming... Oh well- I still like it. I hope it is not outside of LA with fake snow or something horrible like that... I will choose to believe that it is actually in England.

I love the blue ottoman coffee table in here. Notice the two different chairs rather than matching- this type of country casual design can do that look very easily.

I love the beams all over the ceilings. And how about this fireplace that almost looks like it has a hutch on top of it?

The nothing matches look is going great... just how many fireplaces are in this little house?

Love the stone wall. Love the tub. Love the faucet on the tub!!!

I really like the stripe down the stairs. I did that for a client once down in LA- it was a custom piece made especially for the job by Capel. Great look.
So- which house is your style- Kate Winslet's English cottage- or Cameron Diaz's Hollywood mansion?

I can't leave out Sophie and Olivia's "tent". Shabby Chic at its finest...

Oh yes- and did anyone else notice Cameron Diaz's fabulous coats in this movie??? I want them ALL!!!

The Holiday- Part I

One of my favorite ways to make life seem like "Christmas Time" is by watching Christmas movies. My friend Michelle recently got me a great one- "The Holiday" with Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet and Jude Law. Who did not adore Cameron Diaz's Hollywood home? Was it not over-the-top amazing?

Check out her bedroom above. Her window treatments are just like I like them- simple- classic- nothing too fruffy.

I really like the lack of "upper cabinets" in this kitchen. To me, it is very luxurious. The hood is, as I always say it should be, the focal point of the room. Look at the greenery. Now imagine the kitchen without it. Now go put some in your kitchen.

The neutral color pallet is pulled off beautifully. If only my four kids would keep all of this white furniture clean...

The jute rugs were the first thing I noticed. They are so large. Large is luxurious...

Another view of the kitchen. The juxtaposition of the new and old by adding the lantern lights is really great.

So- how many slip covers are in this home anyway???? Who would have thought that one type of furniture can be used everywhere- and it can still be amazing and not boring and over-done?
What did you think? Did you see the movie? Did you like it? Did you like the homes? I will get to Kate Winslet's next time...
