The Wall of Windows

Hello:-)

I AM LOVING YOU!!! I know that I have a stumper:-( We built a beautiful house about 4 years ago on a beautiful piece of property. The original plans were wonderful yet called for a very modest set of windows in the great room. My husband, yes I will blame him, wanted a more grand scale of windows so he suggested to our builder to make a massive wall of windows and wrap it around a corner of our house. Well, me being NOT a designer, decided to NOT look into this at all. What came of the plan was a NIGHTMARE!!! A massive wall of windows that are not even pretty AND a non-symmetrical wall on my fireplace wall. Ceilings are SOARING and I do not know what to do!!! Please don't holler at me for trusting my builder to make my home pleasing to the eye:-(If you can tell me how to make my family room warmer and NOT gross anymore I will adore you forever!!! All windows have room darkening Hunter Douglas blinds as we get beat up by the sun!!!)

Dear Deb,

I love a challenge- and that is what your wall of windows is. And I really want you to adore me forever- so here goes... :)

Imitate the look in the photo below. Don't go all beachy- be consistent in your style of course- but have stationary decorative only drapes like you see here. Just do two panels- have the second wrap the corner like you see here. Keep your fabric not too bold- the treatment itself is bold, and bold fabric will put you over the edge. Use similar hardware as I showed in this post. Keep your window treatments horizontal on the top- hung as high as you can, while keeping them horizontal. Make sure they hit the floor, no high waters. :) Have your blinds up as often as possible. The whole wall would look much better with no blinds, using a window film, like Vista Window Film in their place.

Thanks for writing in!
