Tin Ceilings
Friday, October 9, 2009 at 5:16PM Just found your blog...
We are adding on a craftroom and the style I want is misson... very simplistic cabinets, crown molding... I want to do the walls in a teal blue with brown floors and cabinets. I was thinking of some sort of ceiling "tin tile" look. Would wallpaper be appropriate?? I want to do something fairly low cost, budget friendly... How would it hold up? Will it look dusty after awhile... would I have to worry about it falling?? The room is going to be 12x19. Any advice would be great...
Thanks...
Karmen

Dear Karmen,
I love the "tin tile" look on the ceiling, but I worry that it might be a little imposing on the walls. However - if you like it - do it on the ceiling, or as a lower wainscot.

You could go with a wallpaper - no - it shouldn't look "dusty" unless you keep it for 30 years. It would be less expensive than a real tin ceiling, but I would price out the real thing - as it would look much nicer. Wallpaper holds up much better than paint - which is why you see it used commercially so much. Does it last forever - no. But if it is installed correctly - it won't be falling off your walls either. My wallpaper installer uses a paste even on papers that come pre-pasted. If you have extremely high moisture - coming off might be an issue - but not under normal circumstances. If you are interested in "Arts and Crafts" style wallpaper - check out the wallpaper book, "Metro Classics" by Seabrook.
